#SaveOsgood - The Case for Companionship

***WARNING- THIS BLOGPOST CONTAINS SPOILERS REGARDING THE SEASON 8 FINALE OF DOCTOR WHO, AND OF THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL, DAY OF THE DOCTOR. IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THEM AND DO NOT WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS, DO NOT CONTINUE READING. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED***

Hello Splodgies!

Today, I'm going to be blogging about something that LOTS of other people care about. Today, I am blogging about Doctor Who- most specifically, my thoughts on Osgood in the latest episode, the season finale of series 8.

Basically, I'm making the case for finding some loophole in the plot whereby we can bring Osgood back. I'm trying to start #SaveOsgood on twitter. I don't know if it's working yet. And yes I do understand that characters in Doctor Who frequently make miraculous, unexpected returns, and thus denting the reality of a death in the show, but I still want her to return. For the following reasons:

  1. She's super smart and knows her shiz. A member/employee of unit, with previous experience of the Doctor, she's kind of a mix of Donna and Martha- absolute GOLD for companion material
  2. She can totally handle the danger- did you see her face when Missy had her by the throat? She was cool as a cucumber. Cool.
  3. She has an adorable geeky quirk to her that I don't think any of the recent companions have had (perhaps Rory- maybe even Adam, if you want to go all the way back to season 1, though many don't regard him as a companion, and I'm not inclined to either, but wikipedia categorises him as such) and this would be a nice dimension for a companion character to take.
  4. Did I mention intelligence? During Day Of The Doctor, she was the first person to work out that she was human, not Zygon.
  5. There's a vulnerability to her, again, as seen in Day Of The Doctor, that recent various writers of the programme like to write into companion characters; yet still having lots of fun character traits- hopefully with good writing the character wouldn't become stale or overworked.
  6. There seems to be something of a theme of the Doctor's companions having minor guest roles in an episode and then returning later on as a fully fledged companion- e.g. Donna, Clara, Jack, Rory. Let's hope Osgood can be the same!!
  7. I don't recall a single bespectacled companion. I've not seen much of the classic series, so I could be wrong. But, c'mon! Does the Doctor only pick people with perfect sight??!
...Not to mention she's popular.

And I know what you may be thinking... "But she totes got vapourised by Missy. She's done and dusted. Literally." I know. But there have been countless times that characters we thought were dead, The Master as a key example- have come back to life without explanation! We had no explanation at all of how The Master survived his cremation, and regenerated into The Mistress since the last appearance. Not that it matters. In an earlier episode in series 8, Time Heist, it appeared as though two of the supporting characters were dead. We've thought River Song was dead before, but she's simply uploaded onto a hard drive in a library somewhere. Amy and Rory didn't really die- they simply lived to death in an earlier part of history.

...And I think we're all a bit done with Jenna Coleman. Nothing personal, its just time to move aside. Kind of like when Rose Tyler left, but with less weepiness involved on the part of the general public.

If we can't have Osgood to be a companion, can we at least double back in her time stream to have some more adventures with The Doctor?

ONE MORE THING- I've been re watching Torchwood recently, because it was really good when it started out. How's about we get a bit more of Torchwood, BBC, hmm? You could totally have some story lines still there. I know its only Jack and Gwen left, but they could recruit some new members- FORGET MARTHA-  In fact, what about any of the surviving former companions of the Doctor? How about... Osgood?

Today, this is me and Becca in the office:

Because its in black and white, it means its all arty and deep. Despite our faces.

See you tomorrow!
