Late Postings

Hello Splodgies!!

My apologies for not uploading this yesterday- But my phone was refusing to upload, so in the end I decided to give up and wait until later, but then I got distracted by a number of things including skype and pesto. I'll post twice today, don't worry! So here's what I WOULD have posted yesterday:

Ahoy there splodgearoos!

Look what was waiting for me when I came home today!

A letter!! #tacticallycoveringmyaddresssointernetstrangerswon'tknockonmydooratrandom.

It was from Bernadette! And it was very much appreciated :) I always love getting letters- I was speaking to my great aunt on the phone (probably one of the only times I've EVER spoken to her, its less frequently than once in a blue moon, but I'd actually been phoning to speak to my grandma, who I talk to on a semi-regular basis, but it was great aunt Joan that picked up the phone. That rhymes -giggle-) And she was telling me how people never send letters to each other anymore, and I pointed out that I DO send letters and very much enjoy receiving them!

If anyone wants to send me something, I'll give you my address! ....So long as you're not someone I don't know.... So basically, if you're my friend. In which case you probably already have my address. Or know someone who does.

Today, this is me in the office, sans le boss:

See you tomorrow(Later today)

What to do when you feel like your brain isn't functioning at work

Hello Splodgies!

So last night I slept badly. This was either due to whoever decided it would be a great idea to go speeding past my house so loudly that it woke me up, or the fact that one of my etchings fell off the wall and landed right in front of my face. Either way, I did not sleep well.

This meant that I did not have time for a shower this morning. Or to make myself a packed lunch. All I had time for was a quick wash and a bowl of porridge before leaving the house.

As I was hurrying, I got into town a little earlier than usual- so I went to Costa to get myself some coffee so that I could perk up a little before starting work. Thinking that I'd get myself a lovely caffe mocha (which I have taken to in favour of the latte recently) I confindently walk up to the counter, but they tell me THAT THEIR COFFEE MACHINE HAS BEEN STOLEN AND THEY ARE ONLY SERVING TEA AND IF I WANT COFFEE I WILL HAVE TO GO TO GREGGS. I am very very not in the mood for the banter the Barista is directing at me, so I simply said "No coffee? Bye then." and leave.

Greggs coffee would not have been as good as Costa coffee. And it would've meant doubling back. And I was already on the verge of being late. So I get into work and tell Becca of my woeful coffee tale.

I manage to get most of my work done today, but I am sleepy and lacking in caffeine so decided to do a few things to try and help me get the creative juices flowing:

  1. Go up and down all the stairs in the building to get my blood flowing around my brain. Its necessary, and it did actually help in the short term.
  2. drinking lots of water to keep myself hydrated.
  3. Going for air- people often forget that in a busy office (which in my case, means 6 or more people in the same room) the air just gets cycled round! And when everyone starts yawning frequently, you know the oxygen is low in the room. So open a window, or go for a trundle around and get some other oxygen!
  4. allowing your brain to tangent, so long as it is justifiable, and can relate to your work.
...And that is all I have to say on the matter. I shall go to sleep soon, so that tomorrow I can avoid a reprise of today.

Today, this is me in my incredibly attractive storm jacket:

Kick start my social life

Hello Splodgies!

in yesterday's blog I mentioned that I was going to be going to an open mic sesh tonight in a nearby town. And I went!!

I thoroughly enjoyed myself, though a number of strange/unfortunate things happened, that I'd really rather wished hadn't happened:

1) I missed my bus getting there- meaning that I arrived about an hour late. Also I didn't have time to go home after work to have some dinner and fetch one of my ukuleles, so I had to eat an utterly REVOLTING pasta salad from the salad bar at Booths next to the bus station, sat alone, on a bench in the dark as it got chilly.

2) There didn't seem to be anybody my age there- I saw with a couple of people who seemed close to my age and we had a bit of a chat, and they seemed nice, so I hope I'll see them again next time I go

3) It was the owner's birthday, and there was a giant delicious looking cake, but it was a chocolate and peanut butter cake so I couldn't join in the birthday festivities :( I thought that the whole anaphylactic shock thing might put a downer on the birthday times- but it looked so tasty!

4) Things seemed to be winding down not long after I arrived- meaning I had to make a very quick choice between staying and leaving in order to get the bus. In the end, I dashed for it, and was very nearly abandoned by the bus, but by standing in the road directly infront of the oncoming lane of the road where the bus was coming, I was able to chase it around the corner after a gesture from the driver and hop on. Luckily somebody I had met at the boat race last weekend was also on the bus and we had a nice chat :)

Today, this is me going for our pre-meeting trundle with my fellow intern:

THEY WERE WRONG!

Good evening my fine readers :)

This evening I have been watching Alien:

And aside from thinking things like "Wow, Ridley Scott really knows how to make films about aliens" and "Why does nobody listen to Ripley in the first place, they should've followed quarantine laws" I can't help but look at the things that they believed would be in an age of space tourism and be both impressed that we still haven't (really) got to space tourism given our current rate of advancing in science and being utterly amazed (and amused) that the screens in the ship were still all black with green writing a la 1980s. They didn't even imagine that touch screen, or voice recognition might exist- or if they did there was no trace of this in the film. And this film was released 12 years before I was even born!

Really the computers on the ship in Alien were just telling them what was happening, rather than making calculations or predictions or communications. Mostly monitoring machines.

and if that was all going on then think of the dizzying heights of technology we might be yet to reach!! A biological 3D printer that can literally print your DNA? How about something that accurately records and simulates memories or dreams? What about a bullshit detector for the gullible? All these things might exist! And I'm excited for them to start existing. Especially the bullshit detector.

And if they were wrong about the future of tech, so could we be too. And that's the thrill of not knowing!

P.S: My mum is off to Kenya tomorrow, so have a look at the projects she's going to be helping run whilst she's there:

Zest!

Hello Splodgies!

So I'm having a great time sitting with my friend, eating my lunch and feeding the ducks.

It's pretty great here- I mean this is the norm:

.....ok, I am utterly thrilled to be here! No sarcasm!! I really am! I had such a great time at work today, I can't wait to go in tomorrow! Always something new, always something interesting! I'm so lucky!

And someone at work put me onto an open mic night sorta thing in a nearby town, so I'm gonna do a little digging and probably go and check it out! Sounds like it could be fun! I'll take my ukulele and everything and see what its all about- who knows, I might even make some friends, which would be nice as so far outside my work and my house I've not made any new friends. And I'm the kind of person who thrives on having friends...!

Isn't life great?

Today this is my and my mate Judy Dench, just chilling out:

Ode To Another Blog

Hello splodgies!!

Today, I took a long-coming trip back to my other blog. It was nice to get back to, as its been just over six months since I posted on biscuity blog.

There are a number of reasons why it has been so long since I posted on the biscuity blog- firstly I had not eaten any new kinds of biscuits in quite some time. Secondly I'm super busy on this blog! Ok, so sometimes I don't write very much on here for reason this that or the other. But other times I write loads! so I hope you'll forgive me for not writing on here very much today, I feel like I'm all blogged out from my extensive biscuity review of the mcvitie's boaster!! If you want to have a look here is the link to the other blog:

Today, this is me looking into my enormous mug of coffee:

The Great Boat Race

Hello Splodgies!!

Today, I went on an adventure! I went to a charity boat race to cheer on my team. Even though it was a Saturday, I got up at the normal time to go to work (Are you proud??) and got on my bus to Keswick to meet my friend and fellow intern Becca (as seen below!) who said to turn up at the lakeside for 10.15. So that's what I did.

....Little did we know we were on the wrong side of the lake!! So the team sent someone round for us with minutes until the first race! ...which unfortunately we missed, so we had to rearrange to race someone else.

Here's a picture of the team before they all got their life jackets on.

Sadly we didn't win our first race... or our third. But we DID win our second!! and a fun time was had by all. I did have a video of the photo finish but uploading it from my phone appears to be something of an issue... I have no idea why... I tried to upload it using my Youtube App, but it seems to be stuck on "preparing to upload"... so. Sorry about that! If it ever gets un-stuck, I'll update this post or put it in a later one, but for now I do have a picture!

See the arms and the paddles raised in victory? That's victory stance, that is. And we (well, I really) decided that when we lost our final race we had the moral victory as we were racing against the Carlisle police force- all of whom have a required level of fitness for their jobs whereas we were a mixture of actors, practitioners and techies with no such requirements. Plus the police team came 2nd last year, apparently, and the team that came first did not enter the competition this year, so really it was no surprise that we lost to the police team.

Those of you who are also biscuity fans will be pleased to know that there is a new biscuity blog post coming out tomorrow! This time featuring the much revered McVitie's Boaster.

Also, y'all should go and vote for Beau to get this sports grant from Mars Milk! Here's the link:

Today, this is me wearing a tall hat and feeling very self-important:
